Kunnen we dat wat er niet meer is herstellen?<\/em> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #005192\"><strong>Emmy van den Boogaard<\/strong>, gynaecoloog bij het Amsterdam UMC, gaf in het kader van <span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orangetheworld.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orange the World<\/a><\/strong><\/span> een lezing over vrouwelijke genitale verminking (VGV), ook wel meisjesbesnijdenis genoemd, bij jonge meisjes en vrouwen. Naar schatting vindt dit plaats bij drie miljoen meisjes ter wereld per jaar. Daarmee is dit nog steeds een actueel probleem. Volgens Amref Flying Doctors sterft er elke 12 minuten (!) een meisje door vrouwenbesnijdenis. Zij maakt deel uit van het multidisciplinair onderzoeksteam van Amsterdam UMC dat zich bezighoudt met VGV. Doel is om verandering teweeg te brengen voor besneden meisjes en vrouwen door te onderzoeken wat het effect is van een hersteloperatie en begeleiding bij seksuele en psychische klachten.
