Dear Soroptimists,

Following discussions held during CSW70 and subsequent exchanges within the SIE Advocacy Team, we are pleased to invite you to a webinar entitled “What is the anti-rights movement in Europe and how does it function?”, aimed at deepening our understanding of current challenges to women’s rights and the rule of law in Europe.

This webinar is organised with the support of Linda Brouwers (Istanbul Convention Promoter of SI Kingdom of the Netherlands and of Suriname and participant in this year’s SIE CSW delegation), who will also contribute to the moderation, following discussions within SIE Istanbul Convention Promoters, and will explore:

• the rise of anti-rights movements across Europe,
• the key actors and networks involved,
• the strategies used to challenge democratic values and gender equality,
• and the broader implications for women’s rights and advocacy work.

This webinar is a direct follow-up to discussions held during CSW70, where concerns were raised regarding coordinated efforts to undermine progress on human rights, including gender equality.

We are honoured to welcome Neil Datta as guest speaker, Executive Director of the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights (EPF). Neil Datta is a recognised expert on anti-gender and anti-rights movements in Europe and beyond. His work sheds light on the strategies and actors involved in efforts to undermine human rights, including women’s rights and gender equality.
