ENG: The mission of the Soroptimists involves empowerment of girls and women. This work is carried out through the lens of human rights and gender equality. The Soroptimists are also focused on access to education, in particular for vulnerable girls. Education about, through and for human rights is what human rights education is all about. Education, awareness and activism help to ensure that women’s human rights are respected and protected, in the Netherlands and elsewhere in the world.

The Chair of Human Rights Education, endowed through “the Stichting Algemeen Fonds van de Unie van de SoroptimistClubs in Nederland, Suriname en Curaçao”, and based at Utrecht University reflects the Soroptimists’ commitment both to women’s human rights and education. Human rights education and learning is something that any Soroptimist can engage in. This section of the website is an introduction to HRE and sources that Soroptimists might draw upon in educating themselves, others within the Soroptimist network, and beyond. Below you will find a few links to resources, that are briefly described. NL: De missie van de Soroptimisten betreft het verbeteren van de leefomstandigheden en het versterken van de kansen (veelal door toegang tot opleiding) van vrouwen en meisjes. Dit doen zij vanuit de mensenrechten en gender gelijkheid. Opleiding, bewustwording en in actie komen, helpt om de rechten van vrouwen en meisjes te respecteren en te beschermen, zowel in Nederland als in alle andere delen van de wereld. De Leerstoel “Mensenrechteneducatie” of “Human Rights Education (HRE)”, is door de “Stichting Algemeen Fonds van de Unie van de SoroptimistClubs in Nederland, Suriname en Curaçao” mogelijk gemaakt en bevindt zich op de Utrecht University. Dit deel van de website is een inleiding tot Mensenrechteneducatie (HRE) en geeft de betrokkenheid van de Soroptimisten weer en het netwerk dat zij inzetten om de mensenrechten gestalte te geven.
